Two friends living in the Bahamas, Sagar (Dutt) and Aarav (Akshay), meet with Sam (Zayed) after five years. Sagar’s youthful brother, Sam is a rich, handsome and very laid-back businessman from Bangkok, in total opposition to Sagar’s lack of determination and optimism. Even though Aarav tries many times to convince Sagar of finding the gold treasure said to lay at the bottom of the ocean in a ship called “The Lady in Blue”, it is only upon the arrival of Sam that they will finally get to doing what they planed. Convinced his brother has the perfect plan to get underwater and split the profits from the abandoned gold, Sam finds that this treasure hunt would be perfect for him to clean up the mess he left back home. Followed by Gulshan (Rahul), a mafia don that wants his 50 million dollars back, Sam has a last chance to make things right and get back his kidnapped girlfriend Mona (Lara) within 24hours.
The storyline lets the viewer come in with big expectations and the superbly filmed introductory sequences only fuel the need for action, but the lack of imagination in what concerns scriptwriting is a real downer. What people expect the most when they go to see this movie is a breath of fresh air from all the other Bollywood movies, a different setting, which was perfectly picked, but that was not nearly the whole improvement it needed. What this movie lacks is a little twist and turn and not letting the viewer’s imagination play a little guessing on what the storyline has to offer next. It doesn’t take much viewing to understand where the story is going and the introductions take way to long. Not even the shark sequences can help very much, quite the contrary, they provoke no emotion whatsoever, except maybe for laughter when seeing Akshay and Dutt riding sharks per sei! The music doesn’t seem to find its place either, and that goes for the Kylie Minogue part, too. What does work is the sound editing and background music, and also the very well made bike chase sequences.
Akshay plays a very good part as the cool guy and it suits him very well, but Dutt is a major disappointment and is not much fun to look at either while showing his beer belly. Zayed and Rahul Dev make up for Dutt’s lack of interst though, while Lara Dutta is showing a lot of skin and looking gorgeous.
All in all, the much speculated cash flow that went into making this movie, doesn’t seem like a good investment and Anthony D’Souza, a debutant director, pretty much got himself a movie that has it all except for substance!
