If one hears words about an Indian film being as good as an American counter-part, one will most surely receive the news with some skepticism. “Blue” is said to be that movie, and with its action packed story and underwater scenes, it could ring true.
Being the movie was recently released, now one is free to judge for himself the truth that goes to the words above. If blue has accomplished one thing, that is the status of surely the most innovative modern movie in Bollywood, and its merits are more than deserving of laud!
Usually an action packed movie has only some moments of tension starting at a definite point, but “Blue” keeps the action pumping right from the start. Truth be told, the best attribute of the action is keeping the viewers mind off the imperfect storyline.
The story evokes the type of “if you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all” movies and basically goes on saying how Mr. Bigshot Akshay Kumar wants to find a treasure at the bottom of the ocean and tries to convince his friend and employee Sanjay Dutt to help him get it. But Dutt does not get so easily convinced and both his girlfriend (Lara Dutta) and his brother (Zayed Khan) have to find ways to get him to do it. Plain and simple!
Five principal action sequences retain the attention – three speed chasing sequences on motorbikes (where Zayed is introduced in a sort of “The Fast and the Furious” manner, a never before seen feature of an Indian film), a boxing sequence between Sanjay and Akshay which helps a great deal in establishing the characters, and most importantly the underwater sequence when they are searching for the sunken treasure.
Anthony D’Souza’s specialty seems to be the making of great visual impact on screen and basically it is thanks to him that “Blue” does a great job in appealing to the audience.
As far as the starring cast goes, the movie is again a surprise in the fact that it lets Akshay do his part without taking any space from any of the other actors – Lara and Katrina Kaif most of all look at their best.
For those who seek a movie to get their blood running, that shows minute after minute of action, stunts and glamour, “Blue” is sure to do the trick in its “James Bond” sort of way, so the youth will most certainly find it very appealing.
