If there is one thing that shocks the audience when first seeing “Blue”, it is undoubtedly the more than impressive purity of the images that catch the eye immediately with superb movement of the underwater world. Pete Zuccarini, “Pirates of the Caribbean” cinematographer, has done his part flawlessly.

But unfortunately, not everybody has performed quite as well as Zuccarini for this movie, and this is no reference to Akshay Kumar’s charming appearance or Lara Dutta’s performance in bikini, which alone can make one’s heart stop. What is disappointing though is that one would expect something to really happen in terms of storyline, but as “Blue” goes on with its stunts, the essence is left hurting.

The action takes place in the Bahamas, where two friends that like to do things like fishing or boxing together, Aarav (Akshay Kumar) and Sagar (Sanjay Dutt), are the main characters. Aaray is the rich guy that will never have enough money, and to get even richer he has a plan to go to the bottom of the sea for the treasure laying in a sunken ship since 1949, named “Lady in Blue”. His friend Sagar, which has better knowledge of how this journey could be made successfully, won’t even think of giving into temptation.

But it so happens that Sagar’s little brother Sam (Zayed Khan) has just returned home after his long lasting trip to Bangkok where he was into bike-speeding. The return is not arbitrary and in fact Sam goes back to the Bahamas to get rid of the troubles he got into with a mafia boss (Rahul Dev). His desperate need for money convinces Sagar that the only good alternative for his brother is to make the most out of the treasure from the sunken ship together with Aarav.

And so it all unfolds, so abruptly making way for deep sea dips, some swimming alongside a bunch of sharks, glamorous locations and speed chasing, a perfect setting for the luscious and barely dressed bodies of Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif. Also expect the special appearance from Kylie Minogue.

All this doesn’t amount to nothing much really, because all these winning elements lack a good story to take part in. Even a spoiler here won’t do any harm, and this must be said, the whole treasure hunt finds justification in the end in a reason that has to do with keeping the honor of the family.

As far as the cast goes, Akshay does a beautiful job, unlike Sanjay Dutt. Lara Dutta is an amazing appearance and Zayed Khan is a real improvement from past roles. Director and co-writer Anthony D’Souza, makes “Blue” his debut film, which is not bad considering, but it’s a real shame to think that with just a little improvement in terms of storyline, the movie could have done so much better.

All things considered, “Blue” is not really such a bad movie to watch!
